Now we get onto the really spooky part, the haunted bingo halls! Lock your doors and make sure the lights are on as you read all about these:
This Mecca Bingo hall started life as a cinema known as The Gaumont in the 1930s, one of the first to be opened in the area. It switched over to being Mecca Bingo Rosehill but the ghosts that surrounded the place weren’t put off by a change in venue. The grey man, as he’s known to locals, has been spotted in the bingo hall and legend says he committed suicide in the building in 1965 but cannot leave his final resting place.
The Invicta Bingo Hall
Again, this building started life as a cinema but it was hit by a bomb in the Second World War, killing four nearby occupants. In later years, bingo hall attendees have reported seeing a man in green, who stalks the building. Further research suggested that it may be the apparition of a Commissionaire who worked for the cinema, always in a green suit, who cared for children in the building.
As with most ghost stories, these two have all the hallmarks of a tragic tale to allow the dead to haunt the area. There’s tragedy, suicide and even murder so it’s no wonder that people report to have seen these apparitions.
If these tales aren’t enough to put a shiver down your spine then you’re a much bolder player than us! We’d suggest taking in some of those spooky promotions this month, as we don’t think we could take going to the haunted halls without some Ghostbusters. We just hope that we don’t bump into the man in green or the grey man online!
